Job Summary: Tracy Aviary’s Conservation Science Program helps conserve birds and their habitats through community science. Focusing on key local habitats and pressing regional conservation issues, our goals are to gather novel information about local avian ecology, inform habitat restoration and stewardship, and engage a diverse community in scientific data collection.  Tracy Aviary’s Conservation Science Program is seeking a Conservation Education Manager who will provide leadership and strategic direction for conservation education programming, support our ongoing community science programs, and engage our community through conservation education programming.

Tracy Aviary (www.tracyaviary.org) is an AZA-accredited institution located on eight acres in the heart of Salt Lake City, UT. In early 2020, we opened Tracy Aviary’s second campus, Tracy Aviary’s Nature Center at Pia Okwai (https://tracyaviary.org/jordan-river/) which furthers our mission to inspire curiosity and caring for birds and nature through education and conservation. The Conservation Outreach Manager will primarily spend his/her/their office time at the Nature Center at Pia Owkai (50%) while also spending some time at Tracy Aviary in Liberty Park (30%) and will conduct fieldwork and outreach/education at offsite locations (20%). 

Primary Duties: 

• Coordinate across Tracy Aviary departments to deliver well-rounded conservation-based educational programming throughout the year, geared toward both youth and adult audiences

• Oversee the execution of Aviary-led educational programming, providing strategic direction and feedback.

• Supervise full-time and part-time Conservation Education Ecologists and seasonal interns

• Broaden and diversify the audiences reached through Tracy Aviary’s Community Science, Education, and Conservation programming

• Establish strong partnerships with outside organizations through collaborative events and program co-development

• Coordinate with education partners and facilitate delivery of their programming at both the Nature Center at Pia Okwai and Liberty Park campuses

• Conduct outreach and education for the Conservation Science Program, including facilitating workshops, engaging in media communications, developing conservation signage, and creating outreach materials for conservation initiatives

• Oversee the development of signage, site interpretation, and self-guided field trips for the Aviary and Nature Center at Pia Okwai

• Assist with data entry, management, analysis, reporting, and presentations as needed

• Assist with conservation science projects as needed

• Assist with grant writing and tracking as needed

• Willingness to work irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with educational theories and methodologies

• Background in science communication and outreach

• Experience in community science or field research

• Bilingual Spanish/English

Salary: $51,480/year

Job Status: Salary, Full-Time
